I remember you went from suburban living to high rise living in NYC. Do you love it or hate it? What are the pros and cons. My husband and I are thinking of doing the same thing and would love your input. We have two small dogs. How does it work with yours? Thanks!
I love it and hate it. Of course, NYC, I believe is one of the world’s great cities. There is something for everyone and every budget culture, food, music, fashion. education the list goes on forever. I feel very much on the cutting edge of many things the opportunities here are endless. For me personally, I am near my sons (well 2 out of 3) my sister and her family so that is a great comfort and source of entertainment! My sister lives at the beach so that is a bonus!
The cons, well it’s expensive and can be cold in climate and attitude. The people here are on the fast track of working and living. Everyone seems so plugged in and missing the NOW. I miss believe it or not the BIG BOX grocery stores and the ease of living. Although the subway is a fantastic source of transportation taking it to and from everywhere can be a chore.
Ah the dog, Flagg, she is a border collie who when we lived near Atlanta roamed at will. She, I think, thought this was some kind of cruel joke. She had never “pooped” on cement before and that took almost a week to happen initially! There are tons of dogs here and lots of dog parks, but I know she would be happier with the grass beneath her paws and the abundance of squirrels to herd. Small dogs would be better suited here and lots of people have them.
As to living in a hi-rise, well it’s nice to pick up the phone when the faucet is leaking and not worry about it. The small spaces in NYC are challenging and encourage creativeness! When I look from my hi-rise window at times it still takes my breath away. As I watch the World Trade reach once again towards the sky I am proud to be a New Yorker.
